Ivan Jovović and Dejan Babić, two young researchers from the University of Donja Gorica (UDG), successfully defended their master's theses last month.


Ivan Jovović's master's thesis was focused on the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning on Edge devices, with interesting examples of AI applications in digital agriculture. Ivan demonstrated the use of various machine learning tools, and experimented with the use of high performance computing (HPC) to train predictive models that can be deployed on edge devices.


On the other hand, Dejan Babić's research is focused on the use of computer vision and artificial intelligence in medicine, which is an excellent example of the use of information and communication technology (ICT) for vertical priority domains of Montenegrin S3. He has researched a range of machine learning tools and has also experimented with using HPC to train models that may find applications in medicine.

Ivan Jovović i Dejan Babić, dva mlada istraživača sa Univerziteta Donja Gorica (UDG), uspješno su odbranili svoje magistarske teze prošlog mjeseca.


Magistarska teza Ivana Jovovića bila je usresređena na upotrebu vještačke inteligencije i mašinskog učenja na Edge uređajima, sa zanimljivim primjerima AI aplikacija u digitalnoj poljoprivredi. Ivan je demonstrirao upotrebu različitih alata koji se tiču mašinskog učenja, a eksperimentisao je sa upotrebom računara visokih performansi (HPC) za obuku prediktivnih modela koji se mogu implementirati na edge uređajima.


Sa druge strane, istraživanje Dejana Babića fokusirano je na upotrebu kompjuterske vizije i vještačke inteligencije u medicini, što je izvrstan primjer upotrebe informaciono-komunikacione tehnologije (ICT) za vertikalne prioritetne domene crnogorskog S3. Istraživao je niz alata mašinskog učenja, a takođe je eksperimentisao sa upotrebom HPC za obuku modela koji mogu pronaći primjenu u medicini.

Executive Director of NTP Montenegro Velibor Bošković and Executive Director of NGO Montenegrin AI Association (MAIA) Nikola Bulatović signed a Memorandum of Cooperation today as a basis for further directions of joint action in the next 3 years.

Our goal is to raise people’s awareness about artificial intelligence, and we are delighted to have seen a large number of AI enthusiasts at our MeetUps who want to learn, educate themselves, and advance in this field, or to inform themselves about ways in which they can improve their businesses.

One of the most significant topics of today that is slowly but surely becoming an essential part of our lives is artificial intelligence. We spoke with representatives of the Montenegrin AI Association – MAIA, now an honorary member of the ICT cluster Cortex, Itana, and Nikola Bulatović, whose organization aims to research, promote, and implement artificial intelligence in everyday life.

Artificial intelligence represents an inexhaustible source of possibilities for improving our world, and MAIA focuses on finding ways in which this technology can enhance people’s lives in our community. The members of this organization have established themselves as leaders in the field of artificial intelligence, and their innovative approach enables the creation of a new paradigm in this area.

### From a spontaneous idea to concrete action

When asked how they came up with the idea to establish an organization **whose focus is on researching and implementing artificial intelligence**, Nikola emphasizes that the initiative came about in a fairly spontaneous way:

“Given that we are engaged in similar research topics, we came up with **the idea of uniting the AI (artificial intelligence) community in Montenegro**. Our acquaintances with colleagues **who are very successful in artificial intelligence research** contributed to this, and we decided to start by gathering a small number of people and **founding an NGO whose topic would be the development of this field.**“

According to our interlocutors, at the very beginning, they focused on building the AI community. Their Slack group gathered a significant number of members in a very short period, who engaged in artificial intelligence, which also contributed to the inclusion of people from different spheres who began to give numerous ideas and suggestions, which was essentially the goal: to unify the AI community under one roof.

### Artificial intelligence development: “a kind of magic” that has existed for over 40 years

As for the concept of artificial intelligence itself, our interlocutors state that it does not represent “some kind of magic“, but that there are scientific research and methods that can be used to prove whether a particular AI system has provided a solution to a specific question. Artificial intelligence as a science has been developing for decades and is by no means a new field. According to them, the revolutionary advancement of AI is thanks to the long-term accelerated progress of electronic computer chips and computer hardware, as well as working environments with which we can easily experiment with algorithms for processing large amounts of data:

“The current breakthrough of artificial intelligence has been built up over the past fifty years. The neural networks we use today were created in the 1990s, but could not be applied in practical applications because we did not have computers on which we could run an artificial intelligence system designed for widespread use. Due to the development of computer technology and the expansion of the large amount of data we generate on a daily basis, it was not until 2010 and later that conditions were created for artificial intelligence to become applicable. Only then do we have the opportunity to program artificial intelligence algorithms without having to use supercomputers. Thanks to all of the above, we now have tools that can process large amounts of information much faster, more efficiently, and meaningfully than we could before. Instead of processing a huge amount of data that someone had to analyze manually or using a computer, we can now replace the entire process with an AI algorithm that will analyze the data and extract useful information from it without the need for human intervention“, said Nikola.

The concept of AI is not so complicated, as Itana explains, emphasizing that the entire concept of artificial intelligence can be defined simply as the science of data:

“People who are typically engaged in this activity will simply say “data science“, which means the science of data, machine learning, or some other form of learning. The fact is that the mention of artificial intelligence opens up a variety of different debates. We can view this phenomenon as an umbrella, under which fall machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, recommendation systems, and all other areas that can contribute with their data.”

### Focus on education and application of artificial intelligence

In addition to wanting to gather people with similar interests and contribute to the development of the aforementioned phenomenon, Itana and Nikola particularly emphasize that in the near future, they will focus on organizing educational programs, MeetUps, and conferences that will be accessible and, as they believe, beneficial to the wider community. Additionally, one of the focuses of their future activities will also be on scientific research with specific projects as their topic:

“None of us is an expert who knows everything absolutely, but we are here to learn from each other, which was ultimately one of our main goals. Of course, new focuses are added for the next period, such as expanding our community, organizing events of various types, research, and so on. Also, one of our priorities, which we cannot currently realize, but hope to achieve in a few years, is scientific research on concrete projects, where our engineers and scientists can work on practical applications. Primarily, we would like it to be in Montenegro, meaning that we would like to implement some of the AI solutions that would improve life in our community. Precisely because most of us come from the world of science, we would like to apply the knowledge we have by contributing to the development of our environment, using artificial intelligence.“

### AI is not synonymous with robotics!

When the term artificial intelligence is mentioned, most people immediately think of robots and the wide range of achievements that have been made in the world of robotics. Our interlocutors explain to us that these concepts are not synonymous and that there is a significant difference between them, especially referring to the definitions and the connection of the mentioned areas:

“A lot of people equate artificial intelligence with robotics, which actually is not the case. We have to note that most of the known robots that can run, overcome obstacles, and so on, are not essentially based on artificial intelligence, but on control science. Specifically, the mentioned robot functions are based on mathematical functions that are calculated and relate to how it can be stable, how it can turn, and how its controllers can balance its stability. There doesn’t have to be artificial intelligence involved in that. Artificial intelligence would be if that robot had a camera and the ability to process data from it, see what is around it, and based on that information, make decisions on movement and so on independently. Such a system would use models that fall into the field called computer vision. Also, if it had some other type of sensor, it could collect information, process it, and then we could talk about artificial intelligence. Again, in that context, we return to the science of data that is detected by sensors, processed, and based on which a certain command is given.”

### AI Tools – Advantage or Threat?

We are witnessing a growing interest in products and tools based on AI technologies. Besides the interest, it would be wrong not to address the concerns of an increasing number of people who, according to many, are rightly afraid that artificial intelligence will take over the jobs they perform. When asked if these predictions will come true, our interlocutors gave us an answer that should relieve the vast majority of those who are concerned about their professions:

“We would not like to ask whether technology based on artificial intelligence will endanger our professions. We believe that they will only transform, and we will have to adapt our work to new technologies, as has always been the case. However, fear of change is often present, and people are often afraid of new tools that they may not be able or willing to learn. We understand these views to some extent, but generally, society has adapted to all the innovations that technological progress has brought over the past two decades. One example we can mention is the example from the book “Deep Thinking“, which describes very well the relationship that humanity has with technological innovations. From the beginning of the twentieth century, there was a system that enabled an automated elevator. Although this technology existed since 1900, it took until the 1950s (after the elevator operator strike in 1945) for it to be accepted because people were not ready to ride an elevator without an operator. Nowadays, the elevator is one of the simplest things we all use every day, and it took 50 years for the innovation to be applied. The point is that if new technologies are understood and used for benevolent purposes, they will surely bring revolutionary benefits to humanity. We should see AI as our assistant, not as a replacement because the role of these tools is to maximize our efficiency and productivity, both at work and in life.”

### Honorary membership in ICT Cortex

When asked about their expectations for membership in ICT Cortex and how they view their organization’s position in the cluster, which has over 30 member companies, our interviewees responded as follows:

“As for our expectations of membership in Cortex, when it comes to ideas and areas of activity, they are complementary and contribute to the development of the IT and AI world, in terms of raising awareness among people in AI fields. We particularly see collaboration in organizing MeetUps, where we bring together a large number of people who are interested in AI and whom we want to help based on our experience. Our main focus is on educating the public about artificial intelligence, and letting them know that it is not science fiction but something that can be of great benefit to us. Another thing we focus on, precisely to increase the visibility and story of AI, is participation in events such as the IT spot. We would like to have a conference where we invite several well-known world AI scientists who come from reputable companies such as DeepMind, Meta, OpenAI, Microsoft, and Nvidia.”

At the end of our conversation, Itana and Nikola wanted to take the opportunity to invite all those interested in this field to contact them, as they have founded the organization precisely to be easily accessible to all those people who are interested in the phenomenon of AI and who see potential benefits in it:

“We would like to invite all people who are involved in ecology, geography, medicine, and maritime – areas that at first glance have no connection to artificial intelligence – to contact us. Specifically, if anyone, from any faculty in Montenegro, or in the role of an activist, sees a problem and has an idea that we can solve using AI models, please contact us. These individuals do not need to know anything related to AI, it is only important that they have a concrete idea or data, and we will do everything in our power to solve the problem and contribute to their functioning and a better future for all of us“.

Cilj nam je da podignemo svijest ljudi o vještačkoj inteligenciji i zato nam je drago što smo vidjeli veliki broj zainteresovanih za AI na MeetUp-ovima, koji žele da uče, obrazuju se i napreduju u navedenoj oblasti ili da se informišu o načinima pomoću kojih mogu unaprijediti svoje poslovanje.

Jedna od najznačajnih tema današnjice koja polako ali sigurno, postaje neizostavan segment naših života jeste vještačka inteligencija. O navedenom fenomenu razgovarali smo sa predstavnicima Montenegrin AI Association – MAIA, sada već počasnom članicom ICT klastera Cortex, Itanom i Nikolom Bulatović, čija organizacija ima za cilj istraživanje, promovisanje i implementiranje vještačke inteligencije u svakodnevnom životu. 

Vještačka inteligencija predstavlja neiscrpan izvor mogućnosti za unapređenje našeg svijeta, a MAIA se fokusira na pronalaženje načina na koje ova tehnologija može poboljšati živote ljudi u našoj zajednici. Članovi navedene organizacije uspostavili su sebe kao lidere u oblasti vještačke inteligencije, dok svojim inovativnim pristupom omogućavaju stvaranje nove paradigme u ovoj oblasti.

### Od spontane ideje, do konkretnog djelovanja

Na pitanje kako su došli na ideju da osnuju organizaciju čiji je fokus na istraživanju i implementaciji vještačke inteligencije, Nikola ističe da je do same inicijative došlo na prilično spontan način:

“S obzirom da se bavimo sličnim istraživačkim temama, došli smo na ideju da ujedinimo AI (artificial intelligence) zajednicu u Crnoj Gori. Tome su doprinijela naša poznanstva sa kolegama istraživačima koji se veoma uspješno bave vještačkom inteligencijom, te smo odlučili da za početak okupimo manji broj ljudi i osnujemo NVO čija će tema biti razvoj navedene oblasti.“

Prema riječima naših sagovornika, na samom početku fokusirali su se na izgradnju AI zajednice. Njihova Slack grupa je za veoma kratak period okupila značajan broj članova, koji se bavi vještačkom inteligencijom, što je doprinijelo i uključivanju ljudi iz različitih sfera koji su počeli da daju brojne ideje i prijedloge, što je u suštini i bio cilj: objediniti AI zajednicu pod jednim krovom.

### Razvoj vještačke inteligencije: “vrsta magije” koja postoji više od 40 godina

Kada je sam pojam vještačke inteligencije u pitanju, naši sagovornici navode da ista ne predstavlja “neku vrstu magije” već da postoje naučna istraživanja i metode  na osnovu kojih se može dokazati da li je određeni AI sistem dao rješenje na konkretno pitanje. Vještačka inteligencija kao nauka se razvijala desetinama godina unazad i nikako ne predstavlja novu oblast. Prema njihovim riječima, do revolucionarnog napretka AI-a, došlo je zahvaljujući dugogodišnjem ubrzanom napretku elektronskih čipova za računare i generalno računarskog hardvera kao i radnih okruženja pomoću kojih možemo jednostavno eksperimentisati sa algoritmima za obradu velike količine podataka:

„Sadašnji proboj vještačke inteligencije gradio se prethodnih pedesetak godina. Neuralne mreže koje danas koristimo nastale su devedesetih godina prošlog vijeka, ali se nisu mogle primjenjivati u praktičnim aplikacijama zato što nismo imali računare  na kojima bismo mogli pokrenuti sistem vještačke inteligencije koji je namijenjen za široku upotrebu. Zbog samog razvoja računarske tehnologije i ekspanzije velike količine podataka koje na dnevnom nivou generišemo, tek od 2010. pa na dalje, stvaraju se uslovi da vještačka inteligencija postane primjenjiva. Tek tada imamo mogućnost da programiramo algoritme vještačke inteligencije, a da ne moramo koristiti super računare. Zahvaljujući svemu navedenom, sada imamo alate pomoću kojih veliku količinu informacija možemo obraditi mnogo brže, efikasnije i smislenije nego što smo to mogli nekada. Umjesto obrade ogromne količine podataka koje je neko morao ručno ili pomoću računara da analizira, sada čitav proces možemo zamijeniti AI algoritmom koji će analizirati podatke i izvući korisne informacije iz njih, bez potrebe za ljudskom intervencijom.“, rekao je Nikola.

Da sam pojam AI-a i nije toliko komplikovan objašnjava i Itana, koja naglašava da se čitav koncept vještačke inteligencije može definisati prosto kao nauka o podacima:

„Ljudi koji se obično bave ovom djelatnošću će prosto reći „data science“,  odnosno nauka o podacima, mašinsko učenje ili neki drugi vid učenja.  Činjenica je da pomen vještačke inteligencije otvara mnoštvo različitih debata. Navedeni fenomen možemo posmatrati kao kišobran, pod kojim spadaju mašinsko učenje (machine learning), duboko učenje (deep learning), reinforcement learning, recommendation systems i sve druge oblasti koje mogu da doprinesu svojim podacima”.

### Fokus na edukaciji i primjeni vještačke inteligencije

Osim toga što žele da okupe osobe sličnih interesovanja i da doprinesu razvoju navedenog fenomena, Itana i Nikola posebno ističu da će se u skorijoj budućnosti usredsrediti na organizovanje edukativnih programa, MeetUp-ova i konferencija, koji će biti dostupni, i kako oni smatraju, koji će biti od koristi široj zajednici. Takođe, jedan od fokusa njihovog budućeg djelovanja će biti i na naučnim istraživanjima koja će za temu imati konkretne projekte:

„Niko od nas nije ekspert koji apsolutno sve zna, već smo tu da učimo jedni od drugih, što je na kraju krajeva bio i jedan od naših glavnih ciljeva. Na taj se naravno, nadovezuju i neki novi koji se odnose na naredni period, a to su širenje naše zajednice, organizacija događaja različitog karaktera, istraživanja i slično. Takođe, jedan od naših prioriteta, koji za sada ne možemo realizovati, ali se nadamo da kroz par godina hoćemo, jeste naučno istraživanje na konkretnim projektima, gdje će naši inženjeri i naučnici moći da rade na praktičnim primjenama. Primarno bismo voljeli da to bude u Crnoj Gori, odnosno da u našoj zemlji realizujemo neka od AI rješenja koja bi poboljšala život u našoj zajednici. Upravo iz razloga što većina nas dolazi iz svijeta nauke, željeli bismo da znanje koje imamo primijenimo tako što ćemo doprinijeti razvoju naše sredine, upotrebom vještačke inteligencije“.

### AI nije sinonim za robotiku!

Kada se pomene pojam vještačke inteligencije, većina ljudi odmah pomisli na robote i na širok spektar dostignuća koja su ostvarena u svijetu robotike. Da navedeni pojmovi nisu sinonimi, i da postoji značajna razlika između njih, objašnjavaju nam naši sagovornici, posebno se osvrćući na definicije i povezanost navedenih oblasti:

„Dosta ljudi poistovjećuje vještačku inteligenciju sa robotikom, što zapravo i nije tako. Moramo napomenuti da većina poznatih robota koji imaju sposobnost da trče, prelaze određene prepreke i slično, nisu suštinski zasnovani na  vještačkoj inteligenciji, već je u pitanju „control science“, ili nauka o kontroli. Konkretno, navedeni robot funkcioniše na osnovu matematičkih funkcija koje se računaju, a odnose se na to kako da taj isti bude stabilan, kako da se okreće, i kako da kontroleri balansiraju njegovu stabilnost. Tu u suštini ne mora biti vještačke inteligencije. Vještačke inteligencije bi bilo, ako bi taj robot imao kameru, i ukoliko bi imao mogućnost da obrađuje podatke sa iste, vidi šta se nalazi oko njega, i na osnovu tih informacija, samostalno donosi odluke o kretanju i slično. Takav sistem, bi koristio modele koji spadaju u oblast koja se zove  computer vision, odnosno kompjuterski/računarski vid. Takođe, ukoliko bi imao i neki drugi tip senzora, zahvaljujući kojima bi prikupljao informacije, i nakon toga ih obrađivao, moglo bi se govoriti o vještačkoj inteligenciji. Opet, i u tom kontekstu se vraćamo na nauku o podacima, koji se detektuju od strane senzora, a zatim  obrađuju, i na osnovu kojih se daje određena komanda“.

### AI alati – prednost ili prijetnja?

Svjedoci smo činjenice da je sve veća zainteresovanost za proizvode i alate koji su zasnovani na AI tehnologijama. Osim zainteresovanosti, bilo bi pogrešno kada se ne bismo obazirali i na zabrinutost sve većeg broja ljudi, koji se prema mišljenju mnogih, opravdano boje da će vještačka inteligencija preuzeti poslove koje oni obavljaju. Na pitanje da li će se navedena predviđanja zaista ostvariti, naši sagovornici su nam dali odgovor koji bi trebalo da rastereti veliku većinu svih onih koji su zabrinuti za svoje profesije:

„Ne bismo voljeli da postavljamo pitanje da li će tehnologija zasnovana na vještačkoj inteligenciji ugroziti naše profesije. Mi smatramo da će se iste samo transformisati, odnosno moraćemo da prilagodimo svoj rad u skladu sa novim tehnologijama, kao što je to oduvijek bio slučaj. Ipak, strah od promjena je često prisutan i ljudi se često boje novih alata koje možda neće moći ili htjeti da nauče. Navedene stavove razumijemo donekle, ali generalno, društvo se u poslednjih dvadesetak godina prilagodilo svim inovacijama koje je sa sobom donio tehnološki napredak. Jedan od primjera koji možemo navesti, jeste primjer iz knjige “Duboko razmisljanje”, koji na veoma dobar način, opisuje odnos koji čovječanstvo ima prema tehnološkim inovacijama. Već od početka dvadesetog vijeka, postojao je sistem koji je omogućavao automatizovani lift. Iako je navedena tehnologija postojala još od 1900. godine, bilo potrebno čekati do sve do 1950-ih (nakon štrajka sindikata operatera liftova 1945. godine) da bi se ista prihvatila, jer ljudi nisu bili spremni da se voze liftom bez operatera. U današnjem vremenu lift predstavlja jednu od najobičnijih stvari koju svi svakodnevno koristimo, a da bi se primijenila navedena inovacija, bilo je potrebno čak 50 godina. Poenta jeste u tome da, ukoliko se nove tehnologije razumiju i iskoriste za dobronamjerne svrhe, sigurno će donijeti revolucionarne benefite za čovječanstvo. AI bi trebali da posmatramo kao našeg asistenta, a ne kao zamjenu, jer je uloga navedenih alata da maksimalno povećaju našu efikasnost i produktivnost, kako na poslu, tako i u životu“.

### Počasno članstvo u ICT Cortex-u

Na pitanje šta naši sagovornici očekuju od članstva u ICT Cortex-u, kakva su zapravo njihova očekivanja od samog pristupanja klasteru koji broji preko 30 kompanija članica, i kako oni vide položaj svoje organizacije u istom, odgovor je bio sledeći:

„Što se tiče naših očekivanja od članstva u Cortexu, kada su u pitanju ideje i oblasti djelovanja one su komplementarne i doprinose razvoju IT i AI svijeta, u smislu osvješćivanja ljudi u AI oblastima. Posebno vidimo saradnju u organizaciji MeetUp-ova gdje okupljamo veliki broj ljudi koji su zainteresovani za AI, a kojima želimo pomoći na osnovu do sada stečenog iskustva. Veliki akcenat nam je na tome da edukujemo javnost o vještačkoj inteligenciji, odnosno da im stavimo do znanja da to nije naučna fantastika nego nešto što nam može biti od velike koristi. Druga stvar na koju stavljamo fokus, upravo zbog povećanja vidljivosti i priče o AI-u, jeste učešće na događajima kao što je IT spot. Željeli bismo da imamo jednu konferenciju na kojoj ćemo pozvati nekoliko poznatih svjetskih AI naučnika, koji dolaze iz renomiranih kompanija kao što su DeepMind, Meta, OpenAI, Microsoft, Nvidia.“

Na samom kraju našeg razgovora, Itana i Nikola su željeli da iskoriste priliku da pozovu sve one koji su zainteresovani za ovu oblast da ih kontaktiraju, jer su, kako oni navode, upravo i osnovali organizaciju kako bi bili lako dostupni svim onim ljudima kojima je fenomen AI-a interesantan, i koji u njemu vide potencijalne benefite:

„Voljeli bismo da pozovemo sve ljude koji se bave ekologijom, geografijom, medicinom, pomorstvom – oblastima koje na prvi pogled nemaju dodira sa vještačkom inteligencijom, da nas kontaktiraju. Konkretno,  ukoliko neko, bilo ko iz Crne Gore, ko dolazi sa određenog fakulteta, ili je možda u ulozi aktiviste, vidi problem, a ima ideju koju možemo da riješimo koristeći modele vjestake inteligencije, neka nas kontaktira. Nije potrebno da te osobe znaju bilo šta što je vezano za AI, samo je bitno da imaju konkretnu ideju ili podatke, a mi ćemo uraditi sve što je u našoj moći da riješimo problem i da doprinesemo njihovom funkcionisanju i boljoj buducnosti svih nas“.

<h1>Digital twins in health care and a sociological-legal approach to Metaverse technology</h1>
It's time for our first webinar in 2023! We invite you to attend the lecture of Mirko Đuković, PhD student of the Central European University in Vienna, who will discuss important topics in the new world of digital technology. Mirko will talk about how Metaverse technology transforms all aspects of our society, about its sociological-legal, as well as security challenges, and the (in)adequacy of existing regulations in the EU.

We are currently living in the fourth wave of computing and networking, where mixed reality (virtual and augmented) exists as a parallel 3D world of the socio-technological world. Our physical presence is no longer necessary for social existence, because we can have social interactions without leaving the apartment. This is one of the key potentials of the metaverse: to transform the social world as we know it. Metaverse greatly affects entertainment, trade, finance, education, and since the Coronavirus pandemic, this technology has also been used in health care. For example, an international team of surgeons used metaverse technology to train themselves to separate three-year-old conjoined twins joined at their head. Also, mental health professionals use the metaverse to work with patients dealing with different phobias. In addition, metaverse allows doctors to work on "digital twins" of patients.

However, what are the risks of this technology? The development of science and technology has had a huge impact on public health. Maintaining public health through technological advances has become the prerogative of medicine more than ever before. But the metaverse not only leads us to the "Matrix" reality where we live in a simulation, but also presents risks for cybersecurity and data privacy, which will have serious consequences in the physical world. Technology carries the risk of a reductionist approach to health, as it excludes important components that affect the health of individuals and populations, but also excludes societies with a low rate of development, and contributes to greater inequality at the global level.

This lecture will point out the sociological as well as legal issues of the metaverse, as well as given an overview of the existing regulation in the EU that (cannot) respond to the challenges that come with metaverse technology.

<h2>Biografija</h2>

Mirko Đuković is a doctoral student at the Central European University in Vienna, where he is researching the law of new technologies, biomedical law, bioethics and the right to health access in the program for comparative constitutional law. He is currently a visiting researcher at NOVA University in Lisbon. He previously worked at the University of Bologna and Oxford University. Furthermore, he was a fellow of the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg. He taught at the Chinese University of Political Science and Law in Beijing, the Central European University and the University of Donja Gorica. As an expert associate, he worked on projects of the Council of Europe, the European Union, the World Health Organization, the Auschwitz Institute, etc. He is the winner of the Rector's Award for Research of the Central European University, as well as the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts. He graduated with a degree in law at the University of Montenegro, while he completed his master's studies at the University of Belgrade and subsequently at Kyushu University in Japan.

Webinar: Digital twins in health care and a sociological-legal approach to Metaverse technology

UDG team and MAIA continue with collaboration. This time on the implementation of a training project called “Competency Training for IoT and AI – InnovateYourFuture” supported by ANSO – Alliance of International Science Organizations, China. This event is also supported by EuroCC Montenegro. Edge AI devices obtained with the support from NVIDIA Academic Grants. 

A two-day training workshop is planned for 22-23 April. The workshop will take place at the UDG. The workshop will include lectures on IoT, Data Preparation, AI, ML, and Edge IoT/AI. The target audience is MSc, BSc, and high-school students, but also representatives from the industry and the public interested in some hands-on training on IoT and AI. are welcome, too. Seminar: AI without filter

A short course and student workshop on AI and IoT took place on 16 February 2023 in a dedicated session at the IEEE IT2023 conference. This training event is organized by UDG and NCC Montenegro as a part of the implementation of the project called “Competency Training for IoT and AI – InnovateYourFuture” supported by ANSO – Alliance of International Science Organizations, China. 

The edge AI devices were provided through NVIDIA Academic grant. The workshop included an introduction to AI and IoT (AIoT), software tools for AI/ML, edge AI, and IoT, and presentation and practical demonstrations. The target audience was MSc, BSc, and high-school students, but others are welcome, too. The presenters at the workshop were Tomo Popovic, Stevan Cakic, Ivan Jovovic, Zoja Scekic, Dejan Babic, and Igor Culafic. The event involved around 60 attendees, 30 on-site and 30 online.
